Wow. What a great first day! Besides some logistical stuff, we were able to get plenty done.
- Introduction to Google SketchUp: This is 3D modeling software that allows students to create scaled models of just about anything they think up. We'll spend quite a bit of time using this amazing program that actual architects use to create preliminary plans and 3D "fly by" presentations.

- Sim City: This software is touted as a "game" but trust us - this "game" is just about the most powerful educational tool available for students interested in urban planning, city management, and community partnerships. Students explored the rich elements of the program today learning how to build roads, how to zone land, and how to watch their budgets carefully.
There is no homework for this course, although we strongly encourage you to talk to your child each night about what is happening in class. Eventually we are confident these discussions will evolve into arguments about tax rates, zoning variances, traffic solutions, and hopefully even lectures about how to dispose of your bacon fat in a responsible way.
We'll be pushing you emails everyday as well as compiling these daily emails onto our blog site. You can find it at http://wherewelive2014.weebly.com/
Lastly, you should know that your child's three instructors are as excited as your child about this course!
