Students have now posted their revised writing prompts defending their decisions to either go without electricity or water for a whole week. Here is a great excerpt from one sample:
"This next problem can really put stress on your parent's shoulders: Keeping the food in your fridge and freezer. Whenever there's a power outage, my parents will always remind me that I can't open the refrigerator for an extended period of time. If I need something, I rapidly open the fridge, grab whatever I need, and close it as soon as I can."
We were treated to a wonderful presentation by HECO complete with gadgets for the students to manipulate to generate their own electricity. Your child should be able to answer questions about
where our power comes from, how it reaches our homes safely, and what the future holds.
Students also continue listing the pros and cons of each energy source as well as generating questions about things they'd like to learn.
