For today's focus on Water & Waste the students were presented the following:
- a science experiment proving why we do NOT pour bacon grease/fat down a drain
- a science experiment proving why we do NOT pour bacon grease/fat down a drain
- a presentation from a civil engineer about how water moves throughout our city
- a lesson on the four ways sewage is treated by the city (screens, sediment/skim, aeration, chlorine)
Students are now in a better position to make informed decisions when it comes to providing their citizens with water and waste removal.
Homework: Students are to investigate the household plan for disposing of kitchen grease and fat. In a group of teacher observers this morning, four women admitted to running hot water and pouring their grease down their kitchen sinks! Yikes!
